Yuka recommended to me to use Centella Madagascar SPF50 Sunscreen 100/100 and I have been using it and giving it to my friends as well as recommending Yuka to them. You haven’t rated Centella above with all your other sunscreens.

I thought I would give your app a try. My husband had a massive heart attack, and now only has 39% of viability of it. I found it very difficult to understand the mg versus the %. On the back labels. As a heart failure patient and wife of one. He needs to watch his potassium, sodium and Lipids (saturated fats). At first I was amazed at the app. I was starting to tell everyone about it. I was about the become a member when I thought. Let me dig into these products further before I decide to chose this commitment.
    – I wish I could attach a photo. I would like to inform you that your sunscreen that you have listed the —***SUPERGOOP MINERAL 40 is absolutely NOT safe to use. The 1st ingredient in that is a cancer agent. AVOBENZONE 3%. This causes cancer. Look at the lawsuit against banana boat sunscreen. The images of those poor infants and children. Also, look into the next 2 after that. Please if you do something like this make sure it’s legit.
    – I’am a Medical Aesthetic Educator and teach about these ingredients every day in skin care lines.
    – I really now am second guessing the food items now. Please help me to believe in your app more.

Actually, it’s benzene that causes cancer, not avobenzone. The lawsuit was about benzene and is involved in the manufacturing process but not listed as an ingredient.

The only problem with Yuka is you have to either buy the item or be in a store to scan barcodes. I buy most items online so I can’t scan them b4 I buy. Please make a way where we can enter product without barcode.

Hi Lulu. If you pay for the premium membership you will be able to use a search bar to look up items. Or a little trick my son came up with, is that if he looks up a picture of an item’s barcode on his phone, I can sometimes scan it with my phone if the picture is clear enough. Hope that helps!

I ‘Yuka-checked’ a variety of sunscreen products for safety and reef-friendly qualities for family members to use during a family vacation in the Caribbean. I also searched another web site as back up. I was able to rule out many of the popular brands based on good information. Thank you for the information.

I see you have Unseen sunscreen from Supergoop rated as 83%. This was not the rate you previously had. The rate was much lower than that. For months I have been trying to change and try new sunscreens that might be better because of that rate you previously had. I would always buy Unseen. I don’t understand the change to an 83%-excellent that you have now.

Thank you for your feedback and my apologies for any confusion this may cause.

A product’s rating can change for several reasons:
      • The manufacturer has changed the composition of the product and the product sheet has been updated with the new recipe/formula.
      • The risk level assigned to an ingredient or additive has been revised based on a review of new studies.
      • There was an error in the application that has been corrected in the meantime.

      I hope this helps!

Unfortunately, Yuka does not analyse pet foods at the present time. Their composition is quite different, and we do not currently have a method of analysis specifically designed for these products.

Please know we don’t exclude the possibility of expanding the app to these foods as we have our own furry friends we care for! 🐶🐈

I recommend giving a short blurb on why these sunscreens were picked. Simply just listing them is not very helpful and having to trying to click here and there on your website trying to figure it out is too time consuming. List the items then state why these items were chosen as the top 12 sunscreens. For example: “does not contain which is a carcinogen, allergen, pollutant etc, contains *** and state why the what it contains is better”

Have you evaluated the New Mineral Facial Sunblock spf 30 from Mary Kay?

I don’t think any multi marketing companies like Mary Kay, Melaleuca, young Living etc use bar codes so there is no way to scan. I would love to know that info.

Are any of these better for darker skin? So many sunscreens turn darker skin purple. I’ve been using the TJ’s on but I see its rated horribly on the app.

Thank you for helping our community with safe sunscreen choices. I have been really conflicted on which sunscreen to buy vs. what is recommended on social media platforms.
Can you please provide a list of safe sunscreens for the face only. I find that products used on my face have a much higher sensitivity to ingredients than my body.

I am not buying anything with harmful substances, I will try to stay away from them as much as possible and I am telling everyone who cares to listen and who cares to stay alive on this planet earth as long as possible. I am very delighted to see that there are some good sunscreen because this stuff goes in your pores and some are not that healthy to use. Thank you for the research my daughter is out in the sun a lot in summer in her sun garden and she has to be careful in the sun the derm told her she needs to cover up cuz she had some skin issues from the sun she is an avid gardener.

I get what you are saying. But there is more to it than that. Using sunscreen of SPF 50 is recommended by dermatologists. Another thing you didn’t consider is it has to UVA and UVB protection.

I’ve had a hard time finding any chapsticks with SPF that have a good score. Do you have any suggestions?

It would also be good to find a lip gloss that has a plumper in it that’s not harmful, but that’s probably unrealistic. (I tossed mine after I scanned it. It got a terrible score!)

I would love to see studies on which of these actually work for keeping you from getting burned. I love that they have no harmful ingredients, but we’ve used a few, and my whole family got sunburns even after re-application. I don’t think that’s great for the skin or body either.

I used Native in curaçao. 🇨🇼

You just have to ensure you reapply it after you swim and every so many hours if you actually lay out in the sun. I even played 18 holes of golf with it there and I never got burnt once. I was there 7 days.

Native is NOT water resistant. That should’ve been stated clearly in the review.

      Reply
      1. Carole

Yes that is why it tells you on the bottle to reapply after swimming, sweating, or every 2-3 hours. None last all day unless they have extremely harsh chemicals. I used Native 7 days in curaçao 🇨🇼, played golf (18 holes), snorkeled, and I never got burnt or my husband.

Now the elevator fell several flights of stairs with him but that’s another story! Hurt his back pretty bad! He’s ok though lol
