A healthy microbiota supports digestion, contributes to natural defenses, and helps maintain steady energy.

I recently found/tried Fage “BestSelf” Lactose-Free plain Greek Yogurt. Being lactose intolerant is a bummer, but lactase pills are affordable and work well. Nevertheless, finding decent lactose-free dairy foods can be a challenge. The Fage Greek lactose-free is a godsend that allows me to eat healthy and delicious. It’s not sour or bitter, and it makes a wonderful and healthy substitute for the expensive lactose free sour cream I usually buy. It’s nice to have a healthy dairy product good for me that I can eat.

    Good list, thanks Julie!

To all the high fat comments, lower fat yoghurt simply has some of the milk fat removed, which lowers the calories while keeping the same protein and live cultures. For most people, maintaining a healthy BMI is far more important for health than whether yoghurt contains dairy fat. If the yoghurt is plain and has no added sugar or additives, it’s essentially the same fermented dairy product as full fat yoghurt (which all of these are) just with fewer calories and less saturated fat. Processing isn’t a meaningful criticism either, because all yoghurt is processed through fermentation and fat removal does not affect the probiotic cultures.

This information seems misleading as it provides no clue as to what is actually taken into account for rating. Except for the item at No1, all other products have 90/100 scores which make it unclear why they are put in that order. Information provided is extremely limited and is most identical for all products listed! Importantly, it does not take into account what probiotic bacteria are actually included. Since this is the most important feature that makes yogurts beneficial the ranking should be mostly based on it!

This is list is very useful as additive free organic low fat yoghurt is very different from low fat yoghurts that are processed, loaded with sugar thickeners and artificial sweeteners which is what the Zoe debate about. These are the healthiest natural yoghurts for most people who eat this daily and don’t need a high amount of saturated fat in their diet from a giant bowl of yogurt which is problematic for most people as eating a lot will raise their cholesterol.

I’m a bit concerned that at Yuka you still advocate for “fat free” products and don’t go far enough. Ultraprocessed food is the worst by far and fat free products are ultra processed, but also the notion that fat free is best has caused a lot of damage to our health. We need fats to be healthy. You should research on the science coming from places like Zoe. There’s a great interview with Tim Spector at Diary of a CEO, check it out.

Any reviews on natural yoghurt with Fat? Not sure why they are taking all the fat out. We need the fat. It helps keep us satisfied for longer. They sold us a lie about fats and consumed too much sugar instead, which is way worse.

Often ‘fat free’ replaces the fat with sugar, and in some cases additional products such as emulsifiers or gum. It adds a ‘process’ to the food production and further removes it from ‘natural.’ The body also requires healthy fat. As always, balance and moderation in consumption is the key. Same principle with butter vs margarine. Too much butter is not good for you but it is better than a processed margarine.

You don’t mention that the top Greek yogurt is organic, while none of the others are. This is very important, I think, as you’re not comparing like for like.
Have you tested the fat-free versions as you feel there is too much saturated fat in regular Greek yogurt? Scientists are beginning to disagree about this view of fat. Maybe we should be more cautious. Other people posting are mentioning this too.

We need full fat options, yogurt is a healthy way to include fat in your diet.

    “What Adding Fat Actually Does:

Dietary fat slows gastric emptying. Glucose enters the bloodstream more gradually. Peak glucose excursions are lower.
Fat ingestion also stimulates endogenous GLP-1 secretion(6). GLP-1 enhances satiety and further slows gastric emptying. This is the same pathway targeted by GLP-1 receptor agonists such as semaglutide.
By adding a modest amount of cream, nuts or yoghurt, the glycaemic curve becomes flatter. Lower peaks lead to less abrupt insulin responses. Reduced insulin volatility may decrease hepatic triglyceride flux and over time influence lipoprotein phenotype.
The intention is not to increase saturated fat intake indiscriminately. It is to moderate the glycaemic impact of the meal.”

Thank you for the info but I have concern over the promoting solely of zero fat products, I thought Yuka was to empower people to make healthier choices? Fat free foods are not healthier, to remove fat from food like yoghurts removes a lot of the beneficial components as well leaving behind poorer quality nutrition. I understand people cutting back on fats as a way of addressing unhealthy/sedentiary lifestyles but eating ‘no fat’ foods deprives us of healthy fats needed in a balanced diet.
I have used the Yuka app but articles like this makes me doubt their intentions?

Very disappointing from a team with a mission like yours.
