Very disappointing you didn’t include more solid shampoo bars. Specifically Friendly Soap which has no nasties like parabens and palm oil or plastic packaging, and is an excellent product. All of these products, bar one, are in plastic bottles and several contain palm oil – terrible for the planet, and many are not cruelty free.
Did you check if the collagen was from an animal or plant based source? Animal collagen can include extractions from bovine spinal cord, bones and skin

    1. Ileana from Yuka

      Hi Alison!

Shampoo bars are great products, and many score very well in Yuka. If they do not appear in the Top 10, it is only because our algorithm selects products that are both very highly rated and widely scanned, so the list remains impartial and useful for most users. It does not mean your products are any less excellent.

For now, Yuka does not evaluate packaging, which is why plastic-free options are not highlighted. If you prefer cruelty-free items, we recommend looking for the official labels on the product. We will consider these aspects for future updates.

Thank you again for your suggestions, they help us improve 💚

Hi Begum, I want to reassure you that Yuka is completely independent! We do not accept money, partnerships, or any form of compensation from brands. No company can pay to appear in a ranking, influence a score, or be featured anywhere in the app. This independence allows us to rate products objectively, based solely on their composition 🥕

        1
    2. Ileana from Yuka

Hi Elizabeth, I am very sorry to hear about your experience ❤️‍🩹

Just to clarify, Yuka evaluates only the ingredients printed on the label, not the real-world effects users may experience. Reports like hair loss cannot be measured through a label, so they are not part of our rating.

If a specific OGX product contains risky ingredients, you will see them marked in orange or red. If you want, you can send me a screenshot and I will check it for you! You can email us at team@yuka.io.

Great advise, I have recently been researching shampoos and cannot believe how disgusting some of the additives added are specially phenoxyethanol that is horrific, the fact apart from many other issues this can cause blindness its industrial uses are many and its in beauty products, i sent back to Amazon full refund once noticed the products contents not even wanting it returned. Thanks for the listing, I to am discussing Yuka even my Diabetic nurse has downloaded it when i showed her it. I could type reams regarding also Vegan etc named products mislead everyone it still contains deadly phenoxyethanol. The. Additives shown on yuka need to be read as well once scanned and is a such a massive benefit. I am still securing for a shampoo for grey hair re the dulling effect even one with a delicate blur flower and price eye watering it boasts organic vegan then has phenoxyethanol in it nightmare.

One question – there’s research out there regarding the effect of microplastics from plastic containers on human health. One stating the impacts of microplastics have reduced sperm count by 50% between the Greatest Generation and their grandchildren, Generation Y.

Is Yuka looking to include this in its ratings at some point?

I’ve been using Yuka for a while now, and it’s honestly eye-opening. You don’t realise how many everyday products contain questionable ingredients until you start scanning them. This shampoo list is a perfect example; some of the top brands people trust actually score lower than expected, while more natural or independent brands perform much better. Really useful tool for making healthier choices, and the transparency is what sets it apart. One quick scan can completely change what ends up in your basket. Please continue with this type of email

It’s great to see these products and read what others are using too.
An added ph value for each would be great to ensure they’re acid balanced, any chance of that being considered for a future review please?
I use Yuka when looking at new items – it’s very good to know the details 🙂

I only use products ‘Not tested on animals’, so it would be useful if you added that to the first view reviews for each product. I know Faith in nature are good, but I haven’t heard of some of the others. Otherwise, thanks for the list, I hate chemicals so it is a help.

Cornish Seaweed company shampoo is 65/100 and the conditioner 51/100, both rated good, but I’d have thought they would have had a higher rating. I’m using them through my chemo for delicate hair loss!

I’ve just bought some now and waiting for it to arrive as also just finished active cancer treatment and wanted to “clean up” my skin and hair care. Given the price of the Cornish seaweed products I’m really disappointed they rank so poorly on yuka (not yet scanned a not arrived). They say they re chemical free, does the tuna app say different? I will return if ratings poor.

I have found anything with rice water protein to be brilliant. Personally I use KinKind or Kitsch solid shampoos of this range. I used to shed a lot of hair (which sucked as i have very thin hair) and I barely lose any when using these two bars. KinKind are UK based but Kitsch is available on Amazon.

      Reply
      1. Sandra

Hi Clare, I’ve seen these solid shampoos, but not really sure about them, I take it you lather your hands well then massage it in, is that so? I guess I’ve got hand soap in mind and think it would be hard to rinse out. I do like the idea of no plastic bottle too though. Any advice on using solid soap would be much appreciated.

      2. Becky

I’ve been using Gruum shampoo bars for several years now. I really rate them. I get it on subscription – not had one recently to scan so I don’t know how it measures up to Yuka’s standards

      3. Clare

Weird, I can only reply to myself. Yes, both solid. I was really sceptical myself before hand but now a convert. You can either lather in your hand but I find it easier to literally run the bar over my scalp like I’m using a comb. KinKind is very lathersome (is that a word), Kitsch not as much but I do a second go after rinsing the first, a couple of swipes and I get a massive lather. As I said, fine hair, so I’m really not using much at a time. I had to use someone else’s normal bottle shampoo recently and it felt so slimy compared to my solid bars so I’m definitely a changed woman!

      4. Clare

Becks, I just scanned the gruum coconut shampoo and conditioner bars and they were rated excellent. Nice, but as they don’t have the rice protein I get some hair loss. I got them free on a promo so it was worth a try. They’re my back ups or will give to hubby. He currently has the rest of my ECO warrior one.

      5. Clare

        Sorry, Becky. Odd autocorrect

  163. Sal Bull

I highly recommend Urtekram shampoo and conditioner. Rated excellent on Yuka and my hair is in lovely, shiny condition. I use the colour preserve version. Smells great too!
