TOP 10 Peanut Butters 🇺🇲

September’s here, and nothing beats a protein-packed bite 🥜

Peanut butter isn’t just comfort food — it’s a powerhouse snack that upgrades smoothies, toast, and everything in between. With plenty of protein and rich flavor, it’s a classic that sticks.

Real peanut butter is meant to be simple — just peanuts. But here’s the scoop: many popular brands sneak in added sugars, oils, and unnecessary additives.

To help you spread smarter, we’ve rounded up 10 of the best-rated peanut butters on Yuka. Simple, made with ingredients you can trust. Peanut better, one spoonful at a time. 😉

I purchased the good gather organic peanut butter. Taste ok, super runny so I would not recommend unless you want to drink it.

Something else that matters to me when I shop for food is whether it is in plastic or glass. I want glass so the plastics chemicals are not leaching into the food. In fact, I think that should be included in the scores.

I would like to know where the saturated fat is coming from. Is it the peanuts themselves or added oils. Listing the ingredients of each in the articles would help, instead of just “no palm oil.”

Thanks for the information. I have 2 questions. What is the cholesterol content of peanut butter and why is the rating 94/100 for the top choice and not 100/100?

Yes, I agree, I don’t understand the ratings. I wish there was more of an explanation for the scoring. I would assume I would want to choose a 94 over an 85 rating, but why? And like you said, why isn’t it 100?

      Reply
    2. Mia

Because none of them were perfect enough to achieve a score of 100. Just because a product is a top scorer does not mean it could not be better.

In this article you state: “Organic Creamy Peanut Butter – Trader Joe’s Excellent – 94/100”. I purchase, from T.J. one with the oil on top. The jar states: “Creamy peanut Butter from unblanched peanuts” (No organic on it) It, too, has ONLY peanuts listed on it.

My complaint about organic peanut butter is they are very bland, have to be stirred every time you use it. Haven’t been a fan- however I haven’t seen these brands before. Is there one that has taste to it?

    Reply
    1. Simone

What I do, so I don’t have to stir it every time, I empty the jar into a bowl, stir it up, and then transfer it to a glass container with a lid, for storage in the refrigerator. I’ve been consuming GreenWise (sold at Publix) creamy and crunchy, because of their limited ingredients – Organic Dry Roasted Peanuts, Sea Salt. I enjoy the flavor of both of these.

JIFF is BAD (additives) but for name brands, Skippy can hold it’s head up with a 54/100, no additives or palm oil… Trader Joes is 40 minutes away… I’ll take a 54!

Peter Pan contains added hydrogenated vegetable oils (cottonseed and rapeseed). Peter Pan Crunchy, no high-fructose corn syrup contains added sugar and hydrogenated vegetable oils (cottonseed and rapeseed).

Jif Natural Creamy contains added sugar, palm oil, and molasses. Jif Smooth contains added sugar and palm oil. Jif No Sugar Added contains added palm oil.

Skippy Natural contains added palm oil. Skippy Natural Squeeze pack contains added palm oil and sugar.

I appreciate what you are doing to inform the public regarding food choices. I realize that all of the peanut butters you rated are made with healthy ingredients, however peanut butter in plastic containers is toxic. Considering all the research that has been conducted on this topic, any company that is still using plastic jars for their peanut butter, or any other food, should receive a rating of zero.

Luckily the wife likes them, but I only get crunchy. So, will just have to stick with Skippy. Or maybe find an organic Skippy…

If you could please share, of the different brands listed, why some are graded lower since they are all within the Excellent category? Perhaps the salt, although some at the top of the list also have salt and #7 & #8 don’t even mention salt? All of the information is of great interest and appreciated, but for me, other concerns are the lectin from the peanut skins, and those jars that are made from plastic as opposed to glass. I have had many plastic jars that leak, which tells me it does not have a secure seal and air is getting in to the product which can make the product rancid. I can figure out the jar situation, but do you know of any healthy peanut butter brands that don’t have the peanut skin included? That would be a great help!
