The question I have is how do they clean your hands? Do natural oils clean your skin and kill germs?

    Reply
    1. Sandra

Well soap doesn’t actually kill the germs. It binds to the debris on your hands and in combination with the friction caused by scrubbing for at least 20 seconds, lift the debris and allows the water to rinse it down the drain.

Can I recommend you provide the link to the product website and not Amazon, Target, Walmart and other big corporations so we can possibly buy direct from the company? Thank you for providing such a wonderful service. Proud member here.

Hi Julie, I enjoy Yuka and frequently consult it but can you review more items that people can afford in this economy? Up to $27.00 for a 15 oz container of hand soap is not something I’ll be purchasing! Even $4.99 for Seventh Generation is out of my budget. I understand that the store brand stuff I’ve been getting for $1.29 isn’t comparable, but I can’t afford basic foods like beef, much less nice hand soap. Maybe you could feature a category of “the least bad of the cheap stuff” to help us deal with these tough times.

I am using Blue Land hand soap discs. You can order on Amazon. It comes with a glass bottle with pump. You add the disc and water to the bottle that turns into liquid soap.

These are all really good suggestions. However they are all liquid soap in a plastic container with more plastic for the spout. Whatever happened to good old fashioned bar soap where only you throw out the wrapping and sometimes that’s paper so can be recycled. The same goes for shampoo and conditioner. I use a bar soap/conditioner that works just as well as the liquid form.

Dennis, I learned that we should not be using antibacterial hand soaps because they can foster antibiotic resistance, making infections harder to treat in the future. It is recommended to use plain hand soap.
Antibacterial soaps can harm beneficial bacteria in the environment, which are essential for ecosystems.
The chemicals in these soaps can also pollute water sources, affecting aquatic life.

Healthcare providers recommend using antibacterial hand soap in clinical settings like hospitals and when caring for vulnerable patients at home, such as post-surgical recovery or managing chronic illness, because killing bacteria on hands is critical in these situations. Antibacterial soap is also used in institutional settings like restaurants, child care facilities, and locker rooms to support public health efforts. cleaninginstitute.org State of Minnesota

Kate, bar soaps should only be used for yourself. When I took my Microbiology class we were all given 10 sterile swabs to swab whatever we wanted. We were to keep one on the side. Then we were asked to swab the bar of soap in the lab. It grew the most gross amount of crud! Without saying a word, everyone of us bought pump soap for every sink and tub/shower. That was a life changing moment. This is why only you should use your bar of soap!! Otherwise you have no idea what you are exposing yourself too! Take care.

You have to remember that everything you use (ingested or put on) goes into your body. Some things may be pricier but a hospital bill from health issues later on can be more costly.

Yeah, if the 7th Gen scores perfect, why even buy any of the others? 5 dollars at least is worthwhile price wise, but 15, 20, 30 for hand soap the same size with the same rating is insane in my opinion to eveb contemplate buying…. its hand soap lol

Just wondering if there is any way to compare Melaleuca products in your studies? People would love to see how they rate compared to other products. Thanks in advance 🙂

Every brand that isn’t toxic is also outrageously expensive. There’s no way I could afford any of those listed in today’s economy. I’ll stick to bar soap with the simplest ingredients.

I found Kirk’s bar soap in Walmart on the bottom shelf in a pack of four that I use to shower. It is 100% Premium Coconut Oil Castile Soap, gentle for sensitive skin. It has such a fresh scent without heavy fragrance and lathers well. I love it.

Most of these soaps are outrageously high priced for average people who are already overwhelmed by inflation. If you have a family of 4 washing their hands a lot, $8.00 + is too much to pay for 15 ounces of soap.

I wish that you had included/encouraged the old-fashioned bar soaps, which are not only cheaper but do not come encased in giant plastic containers. Possibly part of the assessment could include the packaging of products? Microplastics are not wonderful for us either. I am interested in high-quality products, but am equally interested in protecting the environment.

I disagree! My family has been using original DIAL bar soap for over 60 years and it has been the best cleaner for our skin and hands …

It gets your body squeaky clean…the soaps you are showing have crap in them….lavender, aloe, lotions….All I want is a cleaner that does not put a film on my skin….

Soap and water will wash away bacteria and germs effectively without the hazards of using antibacterial items which help bacteria mutate and become resistant to medical treatments. These products also kill helpful, protective bacteria on your skin along with harmful germs which can impair your skin’s natural defense barrier.

Lovely to get these recommendations, BUT, buying these liquid hand soaps isn’t great for the environment because they are packaged in usually plastic containers, and the ingredients are diluted in a “liquid”. Why not recommend going back to using soap bars????
